Bethlehem is a tiny village on the other side of the valley, one of many around here with names lifted from the bible. For years, it kept its post office because of the amount of business it did at Christmas from people wanting their postcards postmarked "Bethlehem".
If there are no nasty surprises, by Christmas I will have left this valley that has been my home for the last decade and more.
I finally got the house into a state where I thought I could put it on the market, and did so. Within two hours, someone was asking for a viewing that afternoon. Which went ahead, and they liked it enough to put in an offer.
Which was 10% below my asking price. Now, I deliberately went in asking more than I was expecting to get, but not that much less, and I certainly wasn't going to accept in when the house had been on the market for less than a week.
There was another viewing next weekend. Same story, an offer but too low. But this guy liked the place enough that he went back to his mortgage lender to see if they would let him increase his offer.
They would, and he did.
While it was still less than I was hoping for, it wasn't that much less in the scheme of things (£5k) and considering he was a first-time buyer, that's one less set of complications involved. So I said I'd think about it, but very quickly realised that I was going to accept it.
So I did.
And immediately put in an offer on the little new build I'd seen last month. Because, honestly, other than the massive downsize it's going to need (and being at the wrong end of the village) it's so much more right for me than any of the other places I've seen there, in person or online). I cheekily passed on the £5k less than desired price, not expecting a construction company to accept it.
They did.
So, that's it. Unless something implausibly screws up in a very tiny chain (which would be the construction company having done something really stupid as far as land rights and service supplies), I'm perversely leaving Wales and heading back to England.
Things are too frantic to process the emotions right now, other than the absolute terror of how I'm going to downsize to three rooms less than I have here, when I've only really got one or two excess.
